For a heartier cake, it’s best to mix a few different flours. This recipe uses almond, coconut, and tapioca flour, and also insists that eggs be at room temperature so the ingredients bind easily and cook perfectly (i.e. not too fast, which can cause them to burn). Berries can be a little tricky in this lightened-up batter, so we say skip 'em and stick to the compote. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAR9kTenQyE

As I started my search for a good paleo pancake recipe it was daunting since there are so many reports of pancakes that don’t taste very good and fall apart. However, based on all the positive reviews I decided to give your recipe a whirl and am so glad I did! These turned out great and couldn’t have been more easy or quick to make. I love the simplicity of the ingredients – all things that most paleo eaters have on hand without leaning on a lot of substitutions. The texture is quite different from a regular pancake; but is still very satisfying. They behaved beautifully and I had no issues when flipping them. I cooked the first half in coconut oil and then switched over to grass fed butter – both ways yielded good results, and they brown a bit more with the butter. It made 2 generous servings – although it could have easily fed three. I’m so pleased to have stumbled upon your recipe, it’s a real winner! Thank you.
This recipe does its best to replicate the chocolate Hostess brand donuts, but in a way that gets rid of the lousy ingredients and replaces them with wholesome ones. They contain wonderful things like medjool dates, eggs, and coconut flour, rather than what you’ll find in a package of Hostess donettes. The main ingredient in those is sugar, followed by partially hydrogenated vegetable oil which provides trans fat, and wheat flour. Not a good snack to get into the habit of eating, but these replicas won’t set you back.
This is like a traditional smoky, garlicky, and salty snack mix but it’s made with only real clean ingredients. It can be somewhat addicting. It’s just a nice pure nutty goodness with smoked spices and garlic infused olive oil. You can make it with any kind of nuts you’d like. Walnuts and pecans were used because they are lots of nooks and crannies for the spices to grab onto and stay. The almonds were used to add some extra crunchiness. There are cashews in the picture.
I made these amazing pancakes they were amazing! the whole family loves them! I have tried fancy variations replacing the applesauce with pumpkin and adding pumpkin pie spice. and to make this even more decadent I have topped it with whipped coco cream! Thank you for sharing and making my morning WOW!!! So hard to find recipes that are paleo and not meat and veggies…I am french and can not have these for breakfast… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIR_wKNQIYs
Thanks for the great recipes!! I’m new to your site, but love everything about it! That being said, I was recently diagnosed with Endometriosis. Rather than take pills or have surgery, my midwife has agreed to let me try the Endo Diet, which is very similar to the Paleo Diet, except I can’t have red meats or eggs. Is there a healthy substitute I can use in place of the egg for the mayonnaise?
Of course, snacking is completely optional on a Paleo diet. In fact, many people end up naturally eating only two meals per day, but it doesn’t mean that snacking is a bad idea, especially if the snack only contains healthy ingredients and prevents you from indulging with bad foods. They can also be great when on the go or as something to eat post workout. Just remember that your snacks should respect the basic principles of Paleo. This means that most fruits and nuts should be consumed only in moderation. Most fruits are high in the sugar fructose, which is toxic in higher doses and most nuts are high in polyunsaturated fat (PUFA), especially the omega-6 PUFA. Refer to my article on nuts and seeds to know about the best choices. This also means that snacks containing mainly saturated fat or animal protein are usually great.
Thanks for the recipe! I’ve been looking for a low carb, high fat/protein recipe for a long time. All others failed and this one was perfect. I’m not really paleo so I added some very non paleo items to this recipe. But it turned out really yummy! Used pumpkin, pnb, and whey protein powder! Made about 9 cakes- and 3 were very filling. So I’m excited to have pancakes for breakfast for the next two days :D
I’m really loving these and have made them twice. The only variation in my prep work is that I seperate my eggs and beat the whites into whipped light air before folding in the batter and I noticed the pancakes have a lighter texture and not dense. I changed no ingredients so 2 thumbs up and hubby is diabetic and can eat these no problem so he is happy. Much thanks !
This recipe is inspired by Indochina cuisine and features chilli chicken that gets marinated in a special blend of spices. The red chillies are going to give this a pretty good spiciness to this dish, so if you don’t like spicy foods you may want to pass on this one, or make adjustments to the peppers, using ones that aren’t as potent. It’s served on a bed of cauliflower rice to keep it Paleo friendly. You’ll find that cauliflower is a versatile way to make rice and couscous replacements, and it satisfies your vegetable requirement.
Since your measurement for coconut flour is so specific (and I realize it is a very absorbent flour), do your measurements account for sifting before or after measuring? (I am with you on the less than desirable little bits and you are the first blogger I’ve seen recommend this step that I take after having experiences with certain brands especially having too many bits!)
Our markets today are saturated with all kinds of snack and protein bars. After a glance at the ingredient list, you may find yourself shaking your head at the thought of these bars being considered a “health” food. You may not even be able to pronounce some of the ingredients listed on the nutrition label. Granted, a handful of bars are considered to be Paleo-friendly; however, the price tag that accompanies many choices is considerable. Some of the simplest and tastiest Paleo snack recipes fall into the category of energy balls or bars. Set aside a little time and make a batch or two of these goodies to eat as a great on-the-go snack for you or pack for your loved ones. Here’s a three-ingredient kebab combo that’s great to prep ahead of time (and trust us, they keep well enough in the fridge for a next-day snack). Cut chicken breasts into cubes and marinate in Tessemae’s Lemon Garlic Dressing for 1-3 hours. Thread cubes onto a skewer and grill for about 15 minutes, then garnish with fresh parsley. No extra sauce needed.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this paleo pancake recipe. My toddler’s diet had to be altered for health reasons and pancakes are one of her favourite breakfast items. I’ve been so stressed out trying to find recipes that she loves and this one is a keeper. She and I included absolutely love these pancakes! She’s at a picky toddler age… and I eat them because they’re so delicious! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-M3zfrwrcBI
Seriously. Your recipes keep me up at night. Or maybe it’s the thought of you…in my kitchen….making your recipes that keeps me up. Nevermind my personal fantasies, haha. These were great! Made them today, with a few changes. I used about 1/2 cup pumpkin for the bananas, added a little maple syrup, vanilla extract, and pumpkin pie spice. Used my ebelskiver pan (love that thing) and put some apple butter in the middle of some of them. YUM! And yes, it’s 80 degrees out here, but pumpkin is my weakness. Your pumpkin butter is next on my list to try. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=maSjPJb4rbQ
Halloween has come and gone, but there’s still time to get your squash on! Ground flax seed, vanilla protein powder and egg whites pack on the protein, while pumpkin pie spice and pumpkin puree provide a double-punch of its heartwarming flavor. Top with pepitas and honey for a delicious and festive feast. Photo and recipe: Gina / Running to the Kitchen
Unless a package of beef jerky says it’s Paleo, it’s best to make it on your own, and this recipe will walk you through the process. She’s come up with the perfect blend of spices and the right method for how to get the meat just right. You won’t want to go back to store bought jerky once you make a batch of this. You get to do quality control, choosing lean cuts of sirloin to make it. Then add the spices and seasoning like garlic powder and onion powder. Red wine even makes an appearance, and you’ll be happily surprised at the finished product.
No time for a tropical vacation? Make these coconut and pineapple pancakes instead! Mix all the ingredients in a blender and combine freeze-dried pineapple and coconut sugar for a sweet topping. To make this recipe paleo-approved, be sure to swap the baking powder (which contains non-paleo cornstarch) for one of these simple substitutions. These pork chops are some of the best we’ve seen, and it is through a combination of preparing the pork chop correctly, and topping it with a delicious fruit slaw. When choosing the pork for your pork chops, you want to make sure that you go with an organic brand, rather than conventional. This is true with all of the meat you purchase for Paleo meals because it won’t be loaded with antibiotics, and the animals will have been fed organic feed. For the fruit in this, you’re also going to want to stick with organic peaches, plums, and apricots to avoid chemicals and pesticides. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrvtOgOZwgs
You might think that the best part of these brownies is that you don’t have to bake them, but the real wow factor is that they combine two of the most popular desserts into one. You’re getting chocolate chip cookies and brownies in one package, and they’re layered on top of each other, so your taste buds get the flavor from each one. There are actually three layers to this, one that is mostly brownie, one that is mostly chocolate chip, and a middle layer that is a sort of hybrid of the two. Have this with some Paleo ice cream to really send yourself to the limits of deliciousness.
They’ve taken the approach of using meat to replace the crust of the pizza, which cuts out the grains and makes this one meaty pizza pie. The crust is made from Italian sausage, so it’s going to be massively flavorful, and a little spicey. They recommend using a sugar-free pizza sauce, which on Paleo you don’t want to eat any refined sugar, so this is a good recommendation to follow. They’ve made sure to include a bunch of vegetables in this “meatizza” so you are still going to get your nutritional needs met, in addition to all of that meat.
Hello. I tried this recipe this morning. I new to this paleo/gluten free lifestyle, so this was a nice test of something different to replace pancakes, which I love, but which my body hates. I found them very crepe like as well. Almost like the French part of Frech Toast. I added a tsp of vanilla extract, and a little salt. I look forward to experimenting with this for sure. Next time I will use really ripe banana’s, no cinnamon and add pecan. I also used a cast iron skillet which might just get to hot for these delicate pancakes. But low and slow seemed to do the trick. Thanks for posting this! It makes it so much easier to transition to healthy grain free eating when you have great recipes like this!
Juli, I made 5 of your recipes on Sunday. They were all wonderful. On the triple protein burgers I substituted Spicy Italian Sausage for the hot dogs. WOW!!!!! It was awesome….so was the Avocado Chorizo Sweet Potato Skins….that is now my favorite sweet potato recipe! When is the next cookbook coming out? Your first one is being delivered tomorrow…..your favorite recipe?
Hey, great recipe and site!! FYI, The Paleo Kitchen cookbook has a mayo recipe that is SOOOO much easier…you take 3/4 cut oil of your choice, 1 egg, lemon juice(1 tsp I think), and 1 Tbsp Dijon mustard, place them in a tall, narrow container, and use an immersion blender! Start at the bottom and move the blender upward as the ingredients emulsify. I had quit making my own mayo because the other way was SO time consuming and mine never seemed to come out right, but this version is pretty fool-proof! I use grapeseed oil because the olive oil is a bit bitter for me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDoRiF8zj5Y

This could be the perfect trail mix. It’s full of crunch from a variety of nuts, sweetness from coconut flakes and banana chips and just the right amount of chocolate to curb those cravings. It comes together right in the slow cooker, so your kitchen will smell amazing! Be sure to use coconut oil or ghee instead of butter here to keep it strictly Paleo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrcSUhdBgtc
