The Paleo Diet allows in moderation natural sweeteners like honey and maple syrup. You can’t go wrong adding a touch of these natural sweeteners to enhance the flavor and tenderness of the pancake. However, if you want a more golden brown surface color, honey is the solution. The simple sugars, glucose and fructose, and amino acids in the honey cause the Maillard Reaction to occur when the pancake batter cooks, creating a more rapidly brown surface.
Turmeric is known for its powerful anti-inflammatory properties and has been used for a long time in cooking and medicine in India. If you like to start your day with granola, most other versions you see on store shelves will not be approved on the Paleo diet. I had the same knee-jerk reaction as Susanne when I saw “bananas”. I love bananas, just not really banana pancakes. Hey Gabrielle.. the whole world is confusing when it comes to people telling us what’s right/ what’s not right and what’s healthy/ what’s not healthy. Your better off basing your diet on how your body feels after eating something (tired, bloated, sinus problems, how you feel emotionally, great or satisfied etc) Your body tells you awesome stuff about the things you eat if you pay attention to it.

Nina, how much cinnamon do you use for your pancakes? I have tried banana pancakes, with just 2 eggs, a banana and then some cinnamon and vanilla, but….I find seems like the banana tends to overpower things a bit, not sure if I’m not used to or not or if using an organic one would make a difference, but it’s a little bit of an adjustment. I’m not really paleo so I added some very non paleo items to this recipe. But it turned out really yummy! Used pumpkin, pnb, and whey protein powder! Made about 9 cakes- and 3 were very filling.
