Just finished up my first Whole30 and made these as a celebratory Day 31 dinner. Both my husband and I were amazed how great they were. They looked weird and terrible. I don’t think like that anymore since I’ve gotten to know them. You can either choose them when they are on the yellow side or the green color side. The only difference is that the yellow ones are riper and therefore sweeter. The green ones are less ripe and won’t taste as sweet. That choice is just up to your preference. The yellow ones are a little harder to work with because they are more sticky. I do recommend green but you should experiment and have fun. Making these for the first time right now! I was so excited to get them in the pan I forgot the cinnamon. I don’t have a skillet and didnt know what the equivalent of 350* was on my gas stove top so I did them in a sauté pan on (2 to 3-low) and they came out great. These are wicked amazing!! I made them the first time, as is, just cut the recipe down to 1/3 so it made 3 small pancakes for just me. Hi, Jackie, I’m afraid it’s not possible for me to know where you went wrong since I’m not there with you. If you didn’t make any substitutions and measured by weight, then the most likely problem is the quality of your ingredients. Did you use good-quality blanched almond flour, or did you attempt to use almond meal, perhaps from Bob’s Red Mill. That simply won’t work, as Bob’s Red Mill products are of very inconsistent quality and their almond flour in particular is quite poor.
I wanted to cook the rest of the batter, but didn’t really want to attend to the stove, so I experimented and threw a few in the oven on a buttered cookie sheet at 350. The batter ended up spreading into one thin megapancake, which was sad until I realized that I basically have crepe makings. For a heartier cake, it’s best to mix a few different flours. This recipe uses almond, coconut, and tapioca flour, and also insists that eggs be at room temperature so the ingredients bind easily and cook perfectly (i.e. not too fast, which can cause them to burn). Berries can be a little tricky in this lightened-up batter, so we say skip 'em and stick to the compote.
Tacos can be tricky to make Paleo, but they’ve figured out a good way here by using portobello mushroom caps for the shells. These caps do a good job of holding all of the yummy taco-inspired ingredients, and by the time you finish one of these you’ll feel satisfied, and like you just had Taco Night. The thick texture of the mushrooms means you can pile on the taco toppings and you won’t have to worry about breaking the shell.

Anytime you keep things simple you’ll be keeping them Paleo. Think about it: early man didn’t complicate things because they couldn’t complicate things. These did taste amazing, however I am one of those that cannot get these to stay together to flip them. If I waited long enough to flip without it being a scrambled mess, they were black. Ah breakfast, the meal that seems to be defined by eggs and pancakes and one we always seem to skip. I am guilty as charged for skipping breakfast or keeping it defined to the few basics. One of my most valuable lesson since starting to eat Paleo, is knowing that I can have anything I want for breakfast and it's ok. Today though, I choose these perfect paleo pancakes.

These little sandwiches are really pushing the limits of a conventional sandwich. Bacon is serving as the “bread” and guacamole is the thing getting sandwiched. Avocados are bona fide superfood, and contain plenty of potassium, fiber, and healthy fat. Bacon is often the scourge of most diet plans, but on Paleo it is allowed so why not dig in? The two go really well together, and you’ll often find them as add-ons to deli sandwiches because they simply taste that good.
When I first developed this recipe for Paleo pancakes, I used a tiny bit of coconut flour rather than tapioca starch/flour for structure. The batter was thicker, especially as it sat out, as coconut flour has that tendency, and it was almost impossible to make smaller pancakes. By replacing the coconut flour with a Paleo-friendly starch, the pancakes still have structure but the batter is more flexible.

One way to avoid eating potatoes as a snack is to replace a popular snack like potato chips with a healthier version. Using zucchini in place of the potatoes is a great idea, and gives you added nutrition. Zucchini makes a great choice to make into a chip because all it requires is some slicing and you have nice round pieces ready to be made into chips. They are easy to make, and the recipe is versatile in how it lets you dust them with whatever seasonings you like. This means you could make them BBQ Zucchini chips, or Ranch Zucchini chips, just by adding different seasonings. Just be sure to check the label on the seasoning packet to see if it’s Paleo.
This stew is made from a bunch of beef, some blueberries, carrots, and an onion. It may sound like a bit of an odd mix, but trust us, it works. A stew is the perfect platform to construct a great Paleo meal, and here there’s plenty of healthy foods being combined. Hi I am back! I just thought I’d share this with you. I am pre-diabetic. This morning, I was intent on making your pancakes, and I did, shared with my sons. I did not check my blood sugar before, but I thought I’d check it around two hours after. (It’s been 2-1/2 hrs, I believe). Meatloaf is one food you don’t have to give up while following the Paleo diet. The great thing about meatloaf is everyone usually likes it enough to make it a regular menu item. In this version it has been miniaturized so that you don’t end up making one big loaf, but rather individual-sized portions so that everyone gets a nice outer crust, and it avoids the problem of soggy or crustless middle section pieces. You’ll notice that the breadcrumbs have been done away with as they aren’t allowed on the Paleo diet. You won’t notice they’re gone because there’s coconut flour instead.
I used a heaping spoonful of crunchy peanut butter and a small banana (about half a normal banana) with an egg and cinnamon. I mashed it up with a spoon in a bowl and put it on a heated nonstick pan with butter on it. I used a small, thin pan over the lowest setting on the smallest gas burner we have. No problems with burning, sticking, or flipping here. They were dense, thin, and tasted like fried peanut butter! My picky non-paleo man seemed to enjoy them with his nutella. They started breaking apart when I added some shredded coconut. I think I’ll add more egg or egg white next time or maybe some baking powder to make them fluffier. Possibly baking would be better. Very good recipe, since it’s hard for me to get a recipe to turn out well. :)
This is Paleo’s answer to the tortilla soup you used to love ordering in restaurants, but can’t have anymore because it likely contains beans. Beans are a no-no on Paleo, and this soup recipe deftly avoids them, but still delivers on the flavor you are wanting. This actually is very well-balanced for a Paleo dish, and if you eat enough of it, it can be a meal all by itself. If you just want a cup it can serve as a nice appetizer for a Mexican main dish. We love that this is topped with avocado, one food you should definitely start eating more of if you don’t already.

I agree completely! Nuts.com is such a friendly, festive place that I feel guilty for grumbling about the shipping costs. They did send me a sample of calmyrna figs in the order I received yesterday, so I am somewhat mollified, but still!! I am forever rearranging my pantry to better store all of my flours and big jars of flour blends. It was so much easier when I had my one jar of ap wheat flour…
Well I didn’t have any egg whites on hand so I went forward with sweet potato purée and to my surprise they were great! My husband who is not full time on the paleo diet and remembers “regular” pancakes agreed with me heartily when I said “it’s amazing how pancake like these are.” Our toddlers are allergic to cinnamon so we used allspice and nutmeg. 1/4C of sweet potato purée per egg. I have to admit the toddlers were not sold on them until we added raisins in our latest batch, but I think they’re asserting independence more than expressing true opinions haha. They loved them with raisins! Oh, I also added a bit of flax meal. I might try them again with egg whites or some egg whites some sweet potatoes (thanks Jody!) just because ours were not as filling as others have mentioned them being. We also followed the commenter below by baking them at 400F for 10-12 minutes rather than using a pan. Anyway I know I made a lot of modifications but thanks George for the great basic recipe! Have tried many recipes and keep coming back to yours. Best one we’ve found. 🙂 thank you!! Today I added lemon peel and lemon juice (less water) along with lots of blueberries…..deeeelllliiish. Oh also…just in case anyone doesn’t have arrowroot or tapioca starch…whole root cassava works just as well. Have even added gelatin the past 2 times and they worked well. The do seem to brown quicker, and I’m not sure if it’s the cassava or gelatin causing this.. But I like them like that!

These pork chops are made on the grill, so they are going to seal in all of the delicious grilled flavor. Plus they have added a nice mustard coating on it, so you’re going to have a bit of spiciness here as well as the flavor from the pork. They topped it off with basil apricot relish so there will be a sweetness to balance out the mustard, and sweet fruits like apple sauce are often paired with pork chops because they simply go really well together. Nina, how much cinnamon do you use for your pancakes? I have tried banana pancakes, with just 2 eggs, a banana and then some cinnamon and vanilla, but….I find seems like the banana tends to overpower things a bit, not sure if I’m not used to or not or if using an organic one would make a difference, but it’s a little bit of an adjustment. The first time we made this recipe I followed it to the letter, which resulted in an AMAZING, fluffy texture and wonderful flavor -until we got to the aftertaste, which was very overwhelming and metallic. I assumed it was too much baking soda, but to give the creator credit, maybe it was the brand of baking soda I used. The second time I made the recipe I used a different brand of baking soda, reduced it to 1/2 teaspoon, and added 3/4 teaspoon of lemon juice to the recipe to activate the baking soda. The revised recipe created a wonderful, fluffy pancake with an amazing flavor, and won rave reviews from my son, who said these are his new favorite meal! Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this paleo pancake recipe. My toddler’s diet had to be altered for health reasons and pancakes are one of her favourite breakfast items. I’ve been so stressed out trying to find recipes that she loves and this one is a keeper. She and I included absolutely love these pancakes! She’s at a picky toddler age… and I eat them because they’re so delicious!
