Yes, dark chocolate can be Paleo, and yes, many Paleo experts actually recommend dark chocolate in moderation when it comes to healthy snacks. (Dark chocolate is even included in our 50 best healthy eating tips of all time because it’s packed with antioxidants and has been proven to boost brain health and curb cravings.) But not all dark chocolate meets Paleo snack standards. Look for unsweetened dark chocolate or baking chocolate with 80 percent or more cocoa. EatingEvolved and Primal Kitchen both make dairy-free and certified organic Paleo dark chocolate bars.
Savor the flavor of this carrot soup, which has been enhanced with traditional Moroccan spices. Turmeric, paprika, and cinnamon round things out here, and they’ve served it up with a side of kale crisps for additional flavor. You can also add pomegranates to the soup as a garnish which provides extra nutrition and gives it a nice color contrast. This is a fitting example of the caliber of foods you can make while still following the Paleo lifestyle.
I made these today and they were sooo delicious! I am new to your site and Paleo, I spent all afternoon gathering recipes to try out. I’m in the military also and the hardest part about sticking to a plan is the meal prep and planning. I thought going Paleo would be a lot of work and time in the kitchen but so far it’s been simple and fun! Thank you for doing this, I could not come up with this on my own and you make it so easy to follow. I can’t wait to try more :)
The only thing better than a slice of carrot cake is a carrot cake pancake—and a healthy one at that. Made with only seven ingredients, these pancakes are everything you love about carrot cake minus the cream cheese frosting (which you can make up for with coconut whipped cream). Similar to flipping with berries, we say leave the walnuts for topping, as adding them to the batter can make them a bit heavy—and a bit of a pain in the butt. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mybgoG_DHZk
We’ve been Paleo-ish the past couple of years but with another baby due any day, I’ve been thrilled to find your blog and cookbooks. Sometimes I don’t have the money to keep almond flour on hand and my homemade version doesn’t have the lovely crumb bc it’s not as fine. My 3YO sometimes wants what her older siblings are having. We all tolerate rice flour well and your recipes have been awesome. I think it’s also because you aren’t shy about advising us to use a scale rather than volume measurements. My nonGF husband LOVED the pretzel rolls. (Yeah, I was too lazy to do the pretzel dogs and just made the rolls.) OMG! You so totally rock! I definitely want the new cookbook, too. I hate spending $2 extra to get a GF bun for me and my two kids while eating out or $1.25 for a frozen ok bun. Thanks to you we can eat at home and still have awesome breads and desserts for a fraction of the cost. Thanks again. I will gladly add the new cookbook and will probably just pre-order it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lM5zHcTPab0
Pro Tip: The lecithin contained within the egg yolks is what lends itself to the firmness and fullness of the pancakes, so if you’re not happy with the overall consistency then I would recommend adjusting the egg quantity before anything else. An alternative fix is to simply add another spoonful of coconut flour, but I think that an extra egg will be the most common solution.
Our markets today are saturated with all kinds of snack and protein bars. After a glance at the ingredient list, you may find yourself shaking your head at the thought of these bars being considered a “health” food. You may not even be able to pronounce some of the ingredients listed on the nutrition label. Granted, a handful of bars are considered to be Paleo-friendly; however, the price tag that accompanies many choices is considerable. Some of the simplest and tastiest Paleo snack recipes fall into the category of energy balls or bars. No time for a tropical vacation? Make these coconut and pineapple pancakes instead! Mix all the ingredients in a blender and combine freeze-dried pineapple and coconut sugar for a sweet topping. To make this recipe paleo-approved, be sure to swap the baking powder (which contains non-paleo cornstarch) for one of these simple substitutions. In order to keep salads interesting you need to have an array of different ways to make them. In this grilled chicken salad recipe you’re starting with a basic chicken salad, but adding in items like raspberries, walnuts, and artichoke hearts to jazz things up and make it a meal that you look forward to time and time again. Top it with a basic balsamic vinaigrette or your favorite Paleo dressing and you’ve got a winner on your hands. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xnQM8qlPY4
Banana peppers are really great because they give you a bit of spice but not so much as to be overpowering. When you stuff them with salami you are pretty much getting equal parts meat and vegetable, making this very Paleo. But they didn’t stop there, they stuffed the salami with avocado, so you’re getting a huge nutrition boost as well as a third texture to make this really nice on the palate. The avocado will provide you with a good dose of potassium, as well as fiber to help with digestion. A fine snack choice that will easily get you to your next meal.
These apple chips will do a good job of satisfying your need for something crunchy, as well as something sweet. They’re baked, not fried, so right off the bat you’re coming out ahead than if you were to eat an ordinary chip. These are apples and not potatoes so you’re avoiding eating potatoes, one of the foods not allowed on Paleo. The ingredients list contains just two items, apples and cinnamon, so this recipe is as pure as it gets, especially if you’re using organic apples, like you’re supposed to. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mgiY1oLE-g
Juli, I made 5 of your recipes on Sunday. They were all wonderful. On the triple protein burgers I substituted Spicy Italian Sausage for the hot dogs. WOW!!!!! It was awesome….so was the Avocado Chorizo Sweet Potato Skins….that is now my favorite sweet potato recipe! When is the next cookbook coming out? Your first one is being delivered tomorrow…..your favorite recipe?
These clusters are great for popping, and they’re made from one of the healthiest seeds out there, pumpkin seeds. In fact there’s only four different ingredients to these, so they’ve kept it very simple, and you don’t have to worry if there are any unapproved items here. These are going to be sweet from the use of honey and coconut sugar, with a strong vanilla flavor from the vanilla extract. You can use these to satisfy your sweet tooth without the need to eat an entire dessert. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlAiM0E68Oc
Remove the meat from the marinade and lay it out on your counter on top of some paper towels. The goal is to get it as dry as possible. Lay paper towel over top and pat it dry. Now’s the time to put it into your dehydrator or oven. You can thread the meat onto wooden skewers (near one end of each piece) and lay the skewers perpendicular to the oven wrack’s bars (use the top shelf). Make sure the meat hangs down. Place cooking sheets lined in foil beneath the meat to catch any drips.
I’ve tried many paleo recipes for pancakes, mostly using bananas. While I love bananas, I use them so much that sometimes I want something else. These pancakes are incredible! I didn’t have tapioca flour, so I used arrowroot as others suggested. I made them with blueberries last night for dinner, and they tasted and looked like REAL pancakes. I saved the leftover batter and made some for breakfast and the batter held up fine overnight in the fridge. Not only are they delish, but they are very easy to turn over in the pan (unlike other paleo recipes). I don’t need to look any further for a great pancake recipe….this is it!
This could be the perfect trail mix. It’s full of crunch from a variety of nuts, sweetness from coconut flakes and banana chips and just the right amount of chocolate to curb those cravings. It comes together right in the slow cooker, so your kitchen will smell amazing! Be sure to use coconut oil or ghee instead of butter here to keep it strictly Paleo.
These wings will really hit the spot if you’ve been craving chicken wings, and are too far from your next meal to hold out. The pecan flavor comes from the smoking process, not from actual pecans. That way you’ll get a hint of pecan in every bite, without having to worry about crunchy pieces stuck to the chicken. The cool thing about this recipe is that it makes everything from scratch, so you don’t have to resort to getting things out of a bottle. Our suggestion is to make a big batch and store the rest since this isn’t exactly fast food.
Butternut squash is great for you, kale is fantastic for you, so in this recipe you’re already starting off on the right foot. Next, add in some beef and you’re doing just dandy in regards to Paleo eating. That’s because you’re getting plenty of nutrition from the kale and squash, as well as the requisite protein from the beef, so you’ll feel satiated at the end of the bowl, and this is a stew that eats like a meal because it is a meal, it just happens to be in a bowl. You brown the meat in bacon fat, giving it wild amounts of flavor. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5iMM4Cx_bKk
These 100% grass-fed beef sticks were featured in Paleo Magazine’s Best of 2014 list, and not without a good reason. This low-carb snack boasts high levels of B vitamins, vitamins A and E, and CLA, which is known for its cancer- and stomach fat-fighting properties. They also come in four taste bud pleasing flavors: original, jalapeno, summer sausage, and garlic summer sausage. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQcFQOXVBm8
I think granola bars are pretty healthy so my kids and I eat them for snacks all the time. They aren’t just for breakfast anymore. These granola bars come together quickly and are so easy to make. Chopping the nuts is the most time-consuming part and you probably know that isn’t very hard. You can use whatever nuts you like or have on hand. You can forget the chocolate if you’d like. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xU0XX4beBk
