They say that low-fat weight-loss diets have proved in clinical trials and real life to be dismal failures, and that on top of it all, the percentage of fat in the American diet has been decreasing for two decades. Our cholesterol levels have been declining, and we have been smoking less, and yet the incidence of heart disease has not declined as would be expected. ”That is very disconcerting,” Willett says. ”It suggests that something else bad is happening.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyiH1xtmN_w
I’ve been doing a lot of sweets lately and I think it needs to come to an end! My kids would rather I not stop though 🙂 And I agree that outside pressure often gets us to do things that aren’t good for us – a lot of times without realizing. It’s hard to step back and figure out what’s actually good for US on the inside. I struggle with that sort of thing often.
It’s a great plan to have an emergency Paleo kit in your desk at work. This way whether your caught sort, or don’t have time for lunch, you always have a fast Paleo snack at your fingertips. If you’re buying pre packages tins and packets, make sure you check the ingredients and get the best quality available. These options should store and keep well for a while in your desk; perfect for an emergency stash! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKDQrFUQB88
Don’t settle for buying Fruit Roll-Ups when you can make your own version at home, without all of the chemicals and preservatives. These leathery lookalikes deliver all the flavor you could ask from a fruit snack, because they’re really made from fruit. Apples and strawberries to be exact, and there’s even a grapefruit added for good measure. The recipe ends up making 10 strips, which should be enough to get you through the week. It’s a bit of a novelty, and a delicious way to get some vitamins and nutrients into your body.
wow! i made a couple of your no grain cookie recipes before but this one takes the cake, er, cookie! this time, however, i opted for 1 1/2 cups almond meal with 1/2 cup buckwheat flour. i needed to add about 1/3 cup water to make the dough come together. along with vegan choc chips, i threw in some walnuts and ate three cookies before they were completely cool! since my dough only make 12 cookies, i will probably eat them all in a day. : ) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQoCFZzal_s
I wanted to point out the similarity between the paleo diet and the more revolutionary diet being used by diabetics (as opposed to that espoused by the World diabetic associations) to remove carbs from the diet and have high protein / moderate fat to achieve almost normal blood sugar levels. Historically high carb diets rich in grain / starch were recommended and still are to an extent.

I plan to explore your other recipes as well. thanks!
I have been a follower of yours for a VERY long time as well as Paleo for 2 years now. I have Iost 50 pounds and way more inches I can account for. I went from a fluffy size 16 to a very thin size 4. I feel incredible. Better than going GF alone. I think to myself, I must have had intolerances to other grains and not realized it. I truly appreciate your sharing your dabbling in Paleo. I can relate to needing a cookie just for mom every once and a while. True, made me giggle. Make sure your Paleo readers get the lowest sugar content chocolate chips possible. We get the bars and chop them up.
This is a list of paleo diet meats allowed on the diet. Almost all meats are paleo by definition. Of course, you’ll want to stay away from highly processed meats and meats that are very high in fat (stuff like spam, hot dogs, and other low-quality meats), but if it used to moo, oink, or make some other sound, it’s almost certainly paleo (and, yes, that means you can still have bacon). Here’s the full list of paleo diet meats.
Justin’s is all about being natural. Their almond butter is made with dry-roasted almonds and a bit of sustainably-sourced palm fruit oil, which lends the spread its creamy texture. These squeeze packs are perfect for throwing in your purse or lunchbox when you’re craving a creamy treat. Better yet, pair with apple slices or a banana for a complete snack.
Although it may seem like a no-brainer that eating a balanced diet rich in natural, fresh foods (like veggies, fruits, sustainable animal meats, some starchy plants, leaves, anti-inflammatory fatty acids and oils, nuts and seeds) improves health, research proves that “going Paleo” is one of the healthiest lifestyles and diets that modern humans can adopt.
Eggplants are Paleo friendly for most, but store-bought baba ghanoush can still contain loads of hidden mayo—and that can mean unwanted vegetable oils. Go for a simple, mayo-free recipe with lots of garlic and a squeeze of lemon juice for a fresher take that won’t weigh you down. Try pairing this dip with some Paleo-friendly homemade rosemary sesame crackers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3ywOo3iNoY
These dogs are not actually hot dogs, but are Cajun spiced sausages. You wouldn’t want to eat hot dogs on Paleo because it’s not in line with the Paleo philosophy, even though it does seem to be a meat item. Paleo is about getting back to natural foods, which is why you want to make sure you choose high quality ingredients at all times. These mini dogs have plenty of cauliflower to make them a complete meal, but because of their smaller size they are best used as a snack. They provide a few different dipping options, which it’s always nice to have a choice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8t2pdg16t1g
Hey I just been learning about what the paleo diet is and while I like the natural food aspect of it. I can say with scientific knowledge that cavemen did eat certain grains. They just aren’t the same as modern grains. For instance cavemen made and ate popcorn. Kernals have been found in caves, dated to over 6,500 years ago. Also later cavemen gathered grain and made bread. (though it wasn’t like our bread today, different grains and no yeast) It has been discovered from 30,000 years ago, 10,000 years ago corn was domesticated. The difference between people eating grains in prehistoric times and today is that we have domesticated the grains and bred them into a different species. Not only that but many of our grains are processed and other chemicals are added. This is the problem not the grains themselves unless you are allergic to them. Many people are allergic to modern wheat but can eat buckwheat. However one of the oldest breads was actually made with barley grain.
The diet focuses on unprocessed, whole foods – healthy fats including saturated fat, grass-fed, free-range meat and eggs, lots of fish and seafood, vegetables, fruit, berries, nuts, seeds and some natural sweeteners. It excludes grains, legumes, processed sugar and most dairy. Some people include healthy dairy foods like kefir, full fat natural yogurt, some aged cheese and butter. That, of course, really depends on your sensitivities. We love this way of eating because it also focuses on local, organic produce and good farming practices.
The real key to these, as I say in just about every recipe where I call for chocolate, is that chopped is always better than chips. It melts better because the wax in chocolate chips prevents them from saying melted and gooey, and chocolate chip cookies need to be melty and gooey. You can also control the percentage of cocoa in your chocolate by buying it in bars!
The paleo diet eliminates dairy because its advocates say many people are lactose intolerant, and because eating dairy has been associated with Crohn’s disease, among other claims. (4) While you wouldn’t want to eat lactose (a sugar found in dairy) if your body can’t tolerate it, there’s no proof that eating dairy causes Crohn’s or worsens symptoms in those who have been diagnosed. Cooking and consuming seaweeds can be intimidating because they can seem quite bland, tough or bitter at first glance. With the proper seasonings and cooking though, they can become a real treat. In the following snack, nori sheets are simply rubbed with coconut oil, seasoned with sea salt and a small amount of sesame oil, then roasted very briefly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esJSqaaoibA
YUMMY! I am new to the paleo lifestyle. I have been trying new recipes out on the family. They all love this. I doubled this recipe. I only cooked seven cookies because the batter is so good. My husband said he would easy these paleo chocolate chip cookies over regular chocolate chip cookies any day. I also ate a small amount of batter, maybe a little more than that, but I’m so full. I love how it satisfies my craving and my hunger. Headed to a family dinner full and not craving a refined sugar dessert. Thank you for sharing! I’ll send some sunshine your way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=baEZwX4imOc
While typically considered health foods (who’s ever been angry with a bag of lentils?), legumes have a major downside: phytic acid. According to Paleo Leap, “Phytic acid binds to nutrients in the food, preventing you from absorbing them.” While phytic acid is present in a number of Paleo-friendly foods (like nuts), these foods are generally consumed in smaller quantities. Legumes, however, constitute a staple in many diets around the world, leading to overexposure to phytic acid as well as a host of other antinutrients.
Dairy is a touchy subject. It’s widely considered a gray area in the Paleo community. Much of the world’s population cannot tolerate lactose, the sugar found in milk. Mass commercially-produced milk comes from industrially farmed cows, undesirable from both a health and ethical standpoint. That said, grass-fed and pasture-raised cows produce higher-quality milk. Fermented dairy, like yogurt and kefir, also offers the benefits of probiotics. If you choose to consume dairy, opt for the quality stuff. Otherwise, try additive-free nut and coconut milks.
Here are 9 Paleo coconut flour cookies from my blog and some my other favorite Paleo bloggers. I know what you are probably thinking – another post about coconut flour? Does she eat anything else? The answer is yes, I do eat a variety of foods, but currently, I incorporate a lot of coconut (in … Read More about 9 of the Best Paleo Coconut Flour Cookies
Remember that the point of snacking on Paleo is not a form of escapism or a pig out session, it’s to get you to your next full meal and provide you with energy when you hit a dip. These energy bars have what it takes to propel you forward with a nice mix of fruits, nuts, and seeds you’ll be able to go from depleted to energized just by eating one. They also store up nicely so you can make a batch of them and keep them for the week, allowing yourself one or two a day at strategic times when you start getting hungry and it’s nowhere near mealtime. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhL5DCizj5c
