Vegetable oils aren’t really made from vegetables, which is why we’re still really confused how they came upon that name. They are usually made from junk oils that really aren’t fit for human consumption. These oils are very high in omega-6 fatty acids, which promote inflammation (as opposed to omega-3 fatty acids which are anti-inflammatory). They are debatably one of the major causes of heart disease, and are basically junk oils. While saturated fat remains demonized by mainstream nutrition, it really isn’t the culprit in poor health. Juli, I made 5 of your recipes on Sunday. They were all wonderful. On the triple protein burgers I substituted Spicy Italian Sausage for the hot dogs. WOW!!!!! I just got to know about this paleo diet from one of my friend. I have gained some 6-7kgs in 2.5 months that’s because i fractured my leg and no workouts. It’s freaking about time that I finally stumble upon a paleo recipe that doenst taste like compacted almond/coconut. I am I total agreeance… Taste your dang paleo recipes before posting!!! Almond and coconut flour, butter, nuts, shmuts… They’re all pricey, and id rather not keep “experimenting” at such a high cost. Let me save you all some money…. ALL paleo bread, no matter how tempting and scrumptious looking the recipe pic looks, it’ll suck. The pretzels suck, the “rustic”loaf sucks, paleo hamburger buns suck…. All of it. And, let me tell you, as a former bread addict, it’ll just make you miss bread more at each attempt to make it. Same goes for cookies with the exception of this here cookie. Compai to the cookie!
Natural sweeteners like stevia and xylitol have been extensively studied and don’t impose health risks. Allulose and yacon syrup also appear to be safe according to research studies. Primal (and some paleo adherents’) cooking and baking incorporate them as well as small doses of monk fruit, coconut sugar, maple syrup and wild honey. That said, it’s best to let your taste buds adapt to the natural sweetness and flavor of whole foods. Use these more Primal or paleo friendly very sparingly.
These are really delicious. I agree they are better than the sugary floury traditional cookies! Even my 2.5 year old loves them. I used high quality butter and brown sugar style Sukrin gold for the sweetener, Lilly’s stevia-sweetened chocolate chips, and used walnuts instead of pecans. Did not use molasses. With seafood, wild and sustainably caught is always best, as is sourcing your seafood from areas that are less likely to suffer from pollution and heavy metal contamination. Generally speaking, larger predatory fish are more likely to have higher levels of heavy metals than smaller fish and mollusks. Chocolate chip cookies without any sugar or chocolate wouldn’t really taste like chocolate chip cookies anymore…you could try substituting a calorie-free sweetener for the sugar if that’s what you’re looking for. Since cacao mass has no sweetener, I imagine it would be pretty bitter in cookies, but you could give it a shot – I’ve never used it before so I’m unsure of how it will work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCFZoqmKf5M
Nuts and seeds – these guys are nutritious but many nuts and seeds are high in Omega-6 fatty acids which can be pro-inflammatory if consumed in large quantities and when your diet is not balanced by an equal amount of Omega-3 fatty acids found in oily fish like salmon and sardines, eggs and leafy greens. Basically, don’t gorge on buckets of nuts and seeds every day. The same goes for nut meals and flours such as almond meal.
