We’ve made these a couple times now and the 2nd time they were amazing!! The first time, I tasked my daughter, a self-proclaimed baker, with making them. We didn’t have any eggs in the house so I made an egg replacement using flax/water. She thought she was using parchment paper but actually used wax paper to line the pan. OOPS!! So the 1st batch were a flop. Definitely stick with making them SMALL!! She opted for large cookies and they spread out to cover almost the entire cookie sheet. So the next time, I made them myself with an egg, parchment paper, and kept them small. Like I said, they were amazing!! I’m low carving, so I used Xylitol as my sweetener and didn’t use quite as much as the recipe called for simply because I prefer things a little less sweet these days–I’m turning into my Grandma! When I was in my teens she suggested not adding as much sugar as recipes called for (Grandpa was diabetic at that point) and I thought she was crazy. We love nuts and they are decidedly paleo diet friendly. Be careful though, as cashews are high in fat and, for some reason, it’s incredibly easy to eat an entire jar of them in one sitting (that’s not just us, is it?). If you’re trying to lose weight, limit the amount of nuts you’re consuming. Otherwise, have at it. Natural sweeteners like stevia and xylitol have been extensively studied and don’t impose health risks. Allulose and yacon syrup also appear to be safe according to research studies. Primal (and some paleo adherents’) cooking and baking incorporate them as well as small doses of monk fruit, coconut sugar, maple syrup and wild honey. That said, it’s best to let your taste buds adapt to the natural sweetness and flavor of whole foods. Use these more Primal or paleo friendly very sparingly.

Pseudograins like quinoa, amaranth and buckwheat are less harmful but they are still dense sources of carbohydrates and contain similar antinutrients to grains. They should be prepared carefully to remove some of the anti-nutrients such as phytic acid. Soak such grains in salted water for 8-12 hours, rinse and then cook well before consuming. Chia seeds also fall in this category. Buckwheat is the safest out of these.

Yeah I am frustrated too. I keep going to Paleo recipe sites on the web and many are using non paleo ingredients. Very confusing. Did someone reinvent the Paleo diet out there that everyone is following different guidelines? I want to try the baked avocado and egg with miso butter but then I find miso is soy. Can you offer a yummy substitute for the miso part of the miso butter? Id really appreciate it.
These sweet and sour gummy candies are actually good for you. Pretty weird huh? They are really easy and actually a lot of fun to make. All you do is mix the ingredients, put them into a mold either by pouring or using a plastic bag with a small hole in the corner. Then either put them in the refrigerator or freezer to set depending on how big of a hurry you’re in. You could make them any shape or color you’d like. These snack bars will definitely cure you of any food cravings, which makes them great as an emergency backup while you’re on the Paleo plan. Paleo is definitely not about starving yourself, or torturing yourself by depriving yourself of enjoyable foods, and these bars are proof of that. Imagine having a supply of these at the ready for times when you’re hungry but your next meal won’t be for a few hours. You’d be able to quell any signs of hunger which can often lead to diet-ruining food choices. YUMMY! I am new to the paleo lifestyle. I have been trying new recipes out on the family. They all love this. I doubled this recipe. I only cooked seven cookies because the batter is so good. My husband said he would easy these paleo chocolate chip cookies over regular chocolate chip cookies any day. I also ate a small amount of batter, maybe a little more than that,but I’m so full.
